FC Zenit Saint Petersburg

«Zenith» - a professional football club from St. Petersburg, currently playing in the Premier League.

There is no exact date of foundation of the club. Historians know that in 1925 the team of the football club of the Leningrad Metal Plant, which gave birth to the future club, took part in regular games in the country.

In 1935, it became one of the team’s base points, the position of “head coach” appeared, and this post was first occupied by Pavel Butusov. In 1936, the future Zenit players changed coaches and made their debut in the first USSR Football Championship called “Stalinets”. Then there was the USSR Cup, a series of victories, but the team finished the season in 4th place.

In 1939, the Leningrad Metal Plant, under whose patronage the club was, transferred to the department of the People's Commissariat of Armaments. There was their own DSO "Zenit" here. and FC was renamed, under this name it still exists.

During the Great Patriotic War, the main staff was evacuated to Kazan. Veterans of the team remained in Leningrad itself; unfortunately, many of them could not survive the siege of the city, but those who were able to survive in 1942 held “blockade matches”. In 1944, the club won the USSR Cup.

In the history of FC Zenit there were ups and downs, various changes of players, head coaches – this is a whole living organism that has survived a lot and still continues to live, delighting its many fans.

In 1984, Zenit becomes the USSR Champion. In modern history, they became the winner of the Russian Super Cup four times, and the winner of the Premier League Cup in 2003. They also have victories in the Euro League: UEFA Cup 2007/08 and UEFA Super Cup 2008.
