The final match of the Russian Cup between Rostov and CSKA will take place in a week.
The final match of the Russian Football Cup between Rostov and CSKA, which will take place in Luzhniki, promises to be a bright event for all fans of Russian football. The final of the Fonbet Russian Cup Regions Path ended at the Lukoil Arena stadium in Moscow, where Spartak lost to Rostov with a score of 1:2, failing to advance to the decisive game in Luzhniki. Now Jonathan Alba's team will once again fight for the prestigious trophy of the top division.
Football club Rostov, founded in 1930, has gone through many changes and difficulties, including name changes and periods of oblivion. The team was called Selmashstroy, Traktor, Rostselmash, until it received its current name in 2003. Until recently, the club was headed by Valery Karpin, but he left the post to focus on working with the Russian national team. His place was taken by Jonathan Alba, who had previously worked under Karpin. In the past, the club from Rostov-on-Don reached the final of the Russian Cup twice: in 2003, they lost to Spartak (0:1), and in 2014, they won against Krasnodar (0:0, 6:5 on penalties). In the 2015/2016 season, under the leadership of Kurban Berdyev, the team sensationally took second place in the Russian championship, losing only to CSKA, which allowed it to participate in the UEFA Champions League for the first time. Despite the lack of resounding success in recent years, Rostov continues to be a significant force in Russian football and confidently performs in the RPL. CSKA is one of the most titled clubs in Russia and the Soviet Union with a long history of victories. During the Soviet era, the army team became national champions seven times and won the USSR Cup five times. In the post-Soviet period, CSKA also did not remain without trophies: six Russian championship titles, seven Russian Cups and eight Russian Super Cups. The club's most significant achievement was victory in the 2005 UEFA Cup, when the army team beat Sporting Lisbon with a score of 3:1, becoming the first Russian club to win this European trophy. In the 2024/25 season, the team finished the championship in third place in the RPL under the leadership of the ambitious Nikolic, defeating Nizhny Novgorod's Pari NN with a score of 2:0 and gaining 59 points.
Nikolic and Alba's teams have already met 68 times: CSKA won 37 times, while Rostov - only 17; another 14 matches ended in a draw. The goal difference is also significant - 116 for CSKA against 58 for Rostov.
