Description
Gazprom Arena is the home arena of FC Zenit in Saint Petersburg. This modern stadium, built between 2007 and 2016, is the work of Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa. Externally, it resembles a spaceship and looks majestic. It is 75 meters high and has nine floors. Technical solutions and a retractable roof make Gazprom Arena unique in Russia. Regardless of the weather, this stadium is ready to receive guests all year round.
With a capacity of up to 68,000 spectators, Gazprom Arena corresponds to Category 4 according to the UEFA classification. It is symbolic that the stadium was opened on April 22, 2017, with a match between FC Zenit and FC Ural as part of the 24th round of the Russian championship.
After eliminating the problems with the grass, the Zenit team holds its training sessions and home matches at this arena. It also hosted the 2017 Confederations Cup, the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2020 European Championship.
In 2018, the stadium set a new attendance record - 65,110 spectators gathered at a Leningrad concert, and more than 71,000 fans attended the Channel One ice hockey match between the Russian and Finnish national teams.
