NRG Stadium is a modern multi-purpose sports complex located in Houston, Texas. It serves as the home of the NFL's Houston Texans and is part of the NRG Park complex. The stadium is known for its retractable roof, the first NFL arena with such an innovation. Opened in 2002, NRG Stadium has a seating capacity of 72,220, which can be expanded to 80,000 for special events. Its floor area is approximately 180,000 square meters. The stadium was designed by the architectural firm Populous, formerly known as HOK Sport. Construction cost $352 million. Originally known as Reliant Stadium, the arena changed its name following the acquisition of Reliant Energy by NRG Energy.
